The Charrette
Between October 1-4, 2011 community members, stakeholders, City and Park District officials, agency partners, and design team members gathered for a charrette (intensive design workshop) at the McCormick Tribune YMCA for the Bloomingdale Trail. Support for the charrette was generously provided by The Richard H Driehaus Foundation, the Boeing Company, the Trust for Public Land, and the City of Chicago.

Saturday was devoted to exploring participants' impressions of and visions for the Bloomingdale Trail, while on Sunday participants did an in-depth dive into a number of different issues critical to planning for the Trail (such as art, safety, landscape/use, and access/circulation). After reviewing hundreds of pages of notes, dozens of comments, and numerous drawings and mockups, the project team developed the following summary of the input given by community members and stakeholders at the Bloomingdale Trail Charrette. These points then became the basis for the design team presentation delivered on the last evening of the Charrette. For the final presentation that was given at the Charrette, please see the Bloomingdale Archive.
