What’s Faster? Driving or Taking the Trail?

Our friends over at the Chicago Dept. of Transportation (CDOT) helped us conduct the Bloomingdale Trail Bike Commuter Challenge. The goal is to answer the age-old question: is it quicker to bike the Bloomingdale or drive in a car? I personally competed head-to-head against Edwin Serna, CDOT’s SAFE Ambassador, driving in my Prius while he powered an electric Divvy down the old rail line.

Watch part one of our challenge here:

Oh boy…what a cliffhanger! Who will win?? Ben in the Prius or Edwin on the Divvy? Check out part two for the finale:

Annnd…for those of you who skipped over the video and just scrolled down…the bike wins! Handily!

That’s right, Edwin got to the end of trail in a mere 11 minutes, while I took more than 15 in the car. That’s nearly 30% faster by e-bike.

There you have it folks, Bloomingdale Trail for the win — again!
