The trail is a vibrant backdrop for everything from community murals to yarn-bombing to dance performances.
Arts have always been an integral part of the Bloomingdale Trail mission. From the early days of community design gatherings, it was implored that the elevated park be a “living work of art.”

In celebration of the Bloomingdale Trail’s 10th anniversary, self-taught Chicago street artist Sentrock painted “BLOOM — A Chicago Story,” under the trail on Milwaukee Ave. to honor the trail’s journey from industrial rail line to elevated greenway where communities walk, hike, create, and connect.
Arts have always been an integral part of the Friends of Bloomingdale Trail mission. From the early days of community design gatherings, it was implored that the elevated park be a “living work of art.”
Over the years the trail has hosted local crafters to beautify sections of the trail with the Yarningdale Project.
“Yarn bombing” (a.k.a. yarn graffiti, knitfitti) is street art that covers everyday objects with yarn. The pieces can be knitted, crocheted, or woven. The artist typically measures the object, creates the yarn cover at home, and then sews it on.
Ghosts of the Trail
We have partnered with arts organizations like FreeStreet Theater to host community-generated ghost stories and with Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center to provide a wide range of musical performances at sites along the trail. Check out some of our past events below.
